Four Dead, Multiple Injured in US Mass Shooting

Published:

A mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, has left four people dead and dozens injured, according to police reports. The incident occurred late Saturday night in the Five Points South district, where multiple assailants opened fire on a crowd.

Police officer Truman Fitzgerald told local media that the gunmen fired multiple shots at a group of people just after 11 p.m. Officers arriving at the scene found two adult males and one adult female unresponsive on the sidewalk, all suffering from gunshot wounds. The three were pronounced dead on the spot. A fourth victim later succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.

In addition to the fatalities, dozens were injured in the shooting, with at least four victims in critical condition. The rest suffered various injuries, but no detailed breakdown of their conditions has been provided yet.

Authorities have not yet apprehended any suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), are now involved in the investigation.

This shooting adds to a grim tally of gun violence in the United States this year. According to data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), at least 12,416 people have been killed in 403 mass shootings across the country in 2024 alone. The ongoing surge in mass shootings has reignited debates over gun control laws and public safety measures.

Local authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to help apprehend those responsible for this latest act of violence. The investigation is ongoing, and the community remains on high alert as law enforcement works to track down the shooters and prevent further incidents.
