Trump, who has pledged stringent tariffs and a stronger stance on trade, won a decisive victory over Democrat Kamala Harris.
An editorial by the state-run China Daily suggested that Trump’s second term offers an opportunity to foster a “pragmatic” approach in China-U.S. relations, advocating for strengthened dialogue on key areas of contention such as Taiwan, trade issues, and the South China Sea. The editorial argued that overcoming mutual “misconceptions” could be essential for easing significant tensions.
“A pragmatic approach to bilateral relations is crucial for addressing complex global challenges,” the paper stated, underscoring the need for both nations to avoid confrontational tactics. The China Daily further emphasized that constructive U.S.-China relations could serve the broader global community, suggesting that stability in the world’s most pivotal bilateral relationship would “inject greater certainty into the global landscape.”
